The Poet

Tom Wayman

Loses his position on worksheet or page in textbook
May speak much but makes little sense
Cannot give clear verbal instructions
Does not understand what he reads
Does not understand what he hears
Cannot handle “yes-no” questions
Has great difficulty interpreting proverbs
Has difficulty recalling what he ate for breakfast, etc.
Cannot tell a story from a picture
Cannot recognize visual absurdities
Has difficulty classifying and categorizing objects
Has difficulty retaining such things as
addition and subtraction facts, or multiplication tables
May recognize a word one day and not the next


This poem is about poets. It tells how they are very complex. I think it is about no matter how many poems you write you will never be able to express how you truly feel.





Foundations

Leopold Staff

I built on the sand
And it tumbled down,
I built on a rock
And it tumbled down.
Now when I build, I shall begin
With the smoke from the chimney
.

The poet didn’t think something out so they failed. Next the thought it out, but they still failed. Next time they will think outside the box and try to do something in a way nobody has ever tried or even thought of.

Snow

David Berman

Walking through a field with my little brother Seth
I pointed to a place where kids had made angels in the snow.
For some reason, I told him that a troop of angels
had been shot and dissolved when they hit the ground.
He asked who had shot them and I said a farmer.


Then we were on the roof of the lake.
The ice looked like a photograph of water.
Why he asked. Why did he shoot them.
I didn't know where I was going with this.
They were on his property, I said.


When it's snowing, the outdoors seem like a room.
Today I traded hellos with my neighbor.
Our voices hung close in the new acoustics.
A room with the walls blasted to shreds and falling.
We returned to our shoveling, working side by side in silence.


But why were they on his property, he asked
.

Little kids are very curious. They always want to learn more. Because of there desire to learn they never stop asking questions. If you don’t give a clear answer they will ask you more questions.

to be taught in high school,
so kids will learn that God

This poem is about a boy who is crazy about a girl. She is all he thinks about. All of the things he likes get an A in his report card. Marcia gets an A+




The Rider

A boy told me
if he roller-skated fast enough
his loneliness couldn’t catch up to him,
the best reason I ever heard
for trying to be a champion.
What I wonder tonight
pedaling hard down King William Street

is if it translates to bicycles.
A victory! To leave your loneliness
panting behind you on some street corner
while you float free into a cloud of sudden azaleas,
pink petals that have never felt loneliness,
no matter how slowly they fell
.

A little boy feels lonely. He said if he skates fast enough his loneliness will get left behind. This makes him a very fast roller skater.
